Dr. Kersen is an assistant professor of sociology at Jackson State University. He has been a member of the GIFTS seminar for two years and is also a Service Learning Faculty Fellow. Previously he taught at the University of North Alabama, and a number of other universities and community colleges in Mississippi and Arkansas. Kersen was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Mississippi Health Policy Research Center at Mississippi State’s Social Science Research Center. While at the center, he was also involved a number of projects such as dealing with Mississippi Delta, and the immigration/naturalization process. Dr. Kersen’s research interests are social capital, community, sociology of religion, military sociology, and intentional communities. He received a Ph.D in sociology from Mississippi State University.
